Potential is Limited By Your Surroundings

Today the focus is on the power of your network and the influence of the external dialogue that surrounds you.

Here’s the thing... We've all probably heard the phrase, "Your network is your net worth." It’s become kind of a buzz phrase.

The idea is that your relationships, your environment, and your sources of information influence your success.

Being around successful individuals will influence and inspire you.

If you are in an environment of abundance and positivity, you will be more apt to think in a positive and abundant frame of mind.

If you consume media or information that focuses on similar topics, you are more likely to think and perceive the world in a similar manner, thereby improving or diminishing your quality of life.

Your potential is limited by your relationships, influences, and environment.

Unfortunately, so many people are unaware that:

  • The five people they spend most time with often determine their net worth.

  • The five most frequent sources of information they consume determine their beliefs.

  • The environment they spend the most time in defines their daily thought routines or patterns.

All of this limits a person’s potential.

Let’s clear that up.

Use this next process to remove limits and live to your full potential.

It starts with:

Step 1: Take Inventory

This first step is simply looking inside your life. You probably now understand the idea or topic of “your network is your net worth," so take inventory.

  • Who are your closest friends?

  • Who do you spend the most time with?

  • What sources of information do you listen to?

  • What media do you turn to for updates or news?

  • Where do you spend most of your time on any given day?

Step 2: Compare & Discover

Now, keeping your goals of health, wealth, relationships, and/or happiness in mind, begin the process of comparison.

  • Who in your circle of friends has hit your goals?

  • Who has that amazing relationship with their significant other?

  • Who has hit that financial goal of yours?

  • Who has lost the weight or put on the muscle?

Perform this same exercise with the sources of information and the environment.

Which media source do you regularly consume that contributes positively to your goals? Any of them?

Which area or environment (office, bar, pickleball court, etc.) helps or motivates you in your journey? Any of them?

Step 3: Change It Up

Now that you've taken inventory and compared it to your goals, it's time to make a change.

If you truly want to empower yourself to reach your goals and remove limitations on your potential, you need to change any unhelpful influences.

This can be difficult.

Not spending as much time with old friends can be hard. Yet, if those old friends are at your same level or focused on non-productive activities more often than not, I can guarantee you, you will stay exactly where you are.

Personally, in my journey, I definitely had to spend less time with old military friends, college friends, hobby friends... to instead surround myself with multi-millionaires, successful husbands, and healthy athletes to break my own imposed mental limitations.

Trust me, I still talk to my old friends from time to time; they just aren’t the five people I spend the most time with.

And the same goes for media outlets and environments. Look at people who’ve hit the goals you want to reach and discover where they spend their time and what they listen to.

Adjust and change your habits.

If you're having trouble finding people who have accomplished your goals, consider attending conferences, joining meetup groups, participating in masterminds, competing in athletic competitions, changing your frequent areas, and more.

That’s it. It seems simple, and it is.

Take inventory, compare, and change it up.

Try it first with one friend, one item, and one environment.

You don’t need to uproot your entire life.

Try it out.

See how it impacts your mindset and your goals.

Until next time... Stay Savage
